More than 50 veterans from our community were honored at Schalmont Middle School this morning as the school held its annual Veterans Day Celebration.
Veterans first enjoyed a breakfast in the school cafeteria with students as they talked together at tables. Students then lined hallways and cheered veterans as they walked through the school, holding flags and patriotic signs.
The celebration ended with 5th grade students and veterans talking about the importance of veterans followed by a Q & A session with 8th graders who asked questions such as how did veterans cope with leaving loved ones at home to serve.
Several veterans who spoke noted how nice it was to come back into the school and spend more time with students after two years of abbreviated outdoor ceremonies due to COVID precautions.
Great job students and thank you to our veterans for spending time with Schalmont students and for your service!
