Letter About New MS & HS Leadership

Dear Schalmont families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer! We want to update our families about a change in our school leadership next year that will bring our Middle and High School closer together, create more opportunities for our students, and strengthen our curriculum district-wide.

Instead of simply hiring another Middle School principal, we have spent the past months planning a different leadership model for the entire Middle and High School campus. We want to bring our students, faculty and staff even closer together so we can better support our students and strengthen our curriculum.

I am delighted to announce our own Matt Heckman as Executive Principal for Schalmont Middle & High School. I truly could not be prouder of the job Matt has done at the High School over the past four years. His student-focused approach has led to expanded opportunities and supports for our students. I have no doubt he will do the same for the Middle School. All our students should benefit given Matt’s work with our Elementary, Curriculum and Special Education leadership.

I am also pleased to announce Dr. Gary Furman as Schalmont’s Grades 5-12 Interim Building Administrator. A retired superintendent and principal, Dr. Furman brings to Schalmont a wealth of knowledge and leadership to support our transition as we work towards a consistent K-12 approach for all three Schalmont schools.

Julie Umar and Nicole Martyn will continue to support students, families, faculty and staff as Assistant Principals at Schalmont Middle and High School, respectively. If you have a question for me or any member of our team, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are fortunate to have school leaders at all levels who believe in being accessible whether it’s by email, walking hallways during school, or attending Schalmont events.

I hope you and your families enjoy the rest of your summer and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in September. Always Schalmont proud!

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Reardon
Superintendent
