Gel electrophoresis was the hands-on lesson for Schalmont sophomores just before the break in Mrs. Remis’ Biology classes!
Students learned the laboratory technique which is used to separate molecules by size and charge when studying DNA or proteins. The activity was part of the sophomores’ unit on genetics.
Working in pairs, Biology students first created gels then used micro pipettes to place simulated DNA samples (pigment) into the gel. They then ran electricity through the gel to pull the DNA samples, providing visual data about the samples that students then recorded.
Great job students and great lesson, Mrs. Remis! #sabrepride
