Arrival

Buses unload in the front loop of the Middle and High School starting at 7:25 a.m. Students report to the cafeteria, where breakfast is available, and remain their until it is time for 1st period class.

First period and instruction begins promptly at 7:40 a.m. Homeroom takes place during 1st priod at 8:22 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and morning announcments. 

Student drop-off takes place in the rear loop by the Sabre Field (Athletic Stadium) and the Gym 1 entrance.  At 7:20 a.m., Door 13 will be open for students to enter the school and report to the cafeteria until the 1st period warning bell at 7:38 a.m.

Student drivers park in their assigned spots in the designated student lot. Students are asked to enter the Main Entrance (Door 1), which opens at 7:25 a.m.

Students who arrive after 7:40 a.m. must report to the Main Office to sign in and receive an Admit Slip.

Dismissal

School dismisses at 2:15 p.m. All students are expected to leave the building unless they are remaining for after-school help from a teacher. Students are not permitted in the building after regular school hours without scheduled and approved supervision.

If you need to pick up your child during the school day, please send a note in with your child or call the Main Office by noon so we have time to notify their teacher. Please sign out your child in the Main Office.

Attendance

Daily attendance is important to your child’s success. Please try to make non-emergency dental and medical appointments for students after hours when possible.

If your child will be absent or late for school, please call the Main Office at 518-355-6110 with your child’s name, grade and reason for absence. If we do not receive a phone call, Schalmont will send an automated phone call to verify the absence.

When your child returns to school, please send in a written excuse with the absence dates, reason for absence, and signature of a parent or guardian or call the Main Office.

Breakfast & Lunch

Schalmont High School offers a nutritious breakfast for students that includes hot and cold foods, juice and milk. Breakfast is served from 7:20 to 7:33 a.m. Students who have study halls may request permission from their teacher to purchase breakfast items during their 2nd period.

The High School offers three lunch periods from 10:45 to 11:16 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 12:01 p.m. and 12:15 to 12:46 p.m. A students is allowed one lunch period each day. Monthly menus are available on our Food Services webpage, as is information about meal pricing and pre-paying for meals.

Counseling Center

Each student is assigned a Counselor to help them during their time in High School. Anytime a student or family has a question, please contact your Counselor who will be happy to help. More information is available on the Counseling Center page.

  • Warning Bell – 7:38 a.m.
  • Period 1 – 7:40 to 8:30 a.m.
  • Period 2 – 8:34 to 9:15 a.m.
  • Period 3 – 9:19 to 10:00 a.m.
  • Period 4 – 10:04 to 10:45 a.m.
  • Period 5 Lunch – 10:45 to 11:15 a.m.
  • Period 5 – 10:49 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Period 6 Class – 11:20 a.m. to 12:01 p.m. (for students who have period 5 lunch)
  • Period 6 Lunch – 11:30 to 12:01 p.m.
  • Period 6 Class – 11:34 to 12:15 p.m. (for students who have period 7 lunch)
  • Period 7 Class – 12:05 to 12:46 p.m.
  • Period 7 Lunch – 12:15 to 12:46 p.m.
  • Period 8 – 12:50 to 1:31 p.m.
  • Period 9 – 1:35 to 2:15 p.m.
  • After-school activities and extra help – 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday)

School Nurse

Whenever you have a question about your child’s health, please contact the Health Office and our school nurse will be happy to help you. The Health Office website has contact information and answers to common questions.

Visitors to the School

Visitors to the High School during the school day should first report to the Main Office to sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. Identification is required. Main Office staff will be happy to help direct you. When leaving, please return to the office to sign out.

Visitors to the school outside the school day, for events such as Parent-Teacher Conferences or concerts, do not have to sign in.

Visitors are expected to follow the same Code of Conduct as our students when they are on school property.
