Guest Shares Stories of Thanksgiving Parade

Speaker talks with students

Mrs. Reilly’s 3rd grade class learned what it was like to be on a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this week when guest Maureen Corkey visited their class.

Ms. Corkey explained when she was a child her father, who worked for Macy’s and helped organize the floats, was able to get her on the Mother Goose float as a birthday present. Students gasped when Ms. Corky described having to be at the parade at 4:00 a.m. and enjoyed seeing photos from years ago.

“That was a great birthday present,” remarked one student.

“Yes, it really was great,” replied Ms. Corkey with a smile.

Thank you for visiting Jefferson Elementary and sharing with our students!
