Whenever Charlie the therapy dog visits Schalmont Middle School, even reluctant readers are excited to pick up a book to share with their furry friend!
Charlie visits with ELA Academic Intervention Specialist Mrs. Minehardt-Quick once or twice a week. The toy poodle is a certified therapy dog with additional training to help him sit with children as they practice oral reading fluency.
“This has been an amazing experience for all of my students,” said Mrs. Minehardt-Quick. “I have seen many of them become more fluent readers since Charlie has been coming to school.
