Schalmont’s Annual Professional Performance Review Plans are available here, as required by New York State. Families have the right to view the APPR quality ratings and composite effectiveness scores for their child’s current teacher and principal. Asbestos Management Plan
As required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Schalmont CSD maintains asbestos management plans for district buildings. The plans are available for review during normal business hours. Child Abuse Hotline Notification
If you suspect a child is being abused or maltreated (neglected), report it by calling 1-800-342-3720, a toll-free 24-hour hotline operated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local police department. Information about reporting child abuse and maltreatment (neglect) is available on the NYS Office of Child Family Services website.

Fire Inspections
As required by New York State, Schalmont completed all fire inspections for the 2023-24 school year on October 16, 2023. Reports are available in the Facilities Department. Please contact Facilities Director John O’Donnell for more information.
Freedom of Information Law
For access to Schalmont CSD’s records under the NYS Freedom of Information Law, please submit a letter or email to Interim District Clerk Brenda Leitt detailing the records that you are interested in viewing or copying. The information should be as specific as possible. GEER Grant Funding
As part of requirements for New York’s Governor’s Emergency Educational Relief Fund (GEER Fund), school districts are required to share with our community the plans for the funding. Schalmont is using the aid to offset what we anticipate losing in State Aid to support our mental health staff, Academic Intervention and Remedial services, software to assist maintenance of skills, technology maintenance, and HVAC improvements for our schools. Integrated Pest Management Notification
Schalmont CSD is required to notify our community that pesticide products may be used in school buildings throughout the year. Parents, guardians, and staff may request 48-hour advance written notification, including the date and place where the pesticide will be used, the name of the pesticide and its EPA registration number and who to contact for more information. To be placed on the list, please call District Office Secretary Donna Woods at 518-355-9200 ext. 4001.
Instructional Technology Plan
Schalmont CSD is required to maintain an Instructional Technology Plan to help support achievement and engagement through integration of technology into teaching and learning, improve learning experiences for students and increase equitable access to technology-rich learning experiences for students and staff.
Lead Testing
New York State requires school districts to test water for lead every five years. Any fixtures in school buildings that tested higher than the allowable levels for lead were turned off, fixed or marked with signage that they are for hand-washing only. Here are the latest testing results.
Military Recruiters and Institutes of Higher Education Access to High School Student Information
School districts are required to provide names, addresses and telephone numbers of 11th and 12th grade students to military recruiters and colleges. However, if parents, guardians or students do not want the school to share this information, you can opt-out by letting the High School know. If you do not want to disclose this information, please fill out this form and return it to the High School Main Office. You can submit the form anytime during your school career. The form can also be filled out for 9th and 10th grade students and we will keep it on file to ensure your information is not provided. Release of Student Directory Information
As part of Schalmont’s efforts to celebrate the achievements of our students, information such as name, grades or photos may be shared on the school website, social media or district publications. Parents who do not want to release this information should contact their school’s Main Office. More information on our Data Privacy & Security Information webpage.
School Bus Idling on School Grounds
State law requires school districts to take steps to minimize the idling of the engines of school buses and other school vehicles on school grounds. While students are boarding and departing school buses, the engine should be turned off. Students should be instructed about the importance of getting on and off buses in an orderly and efficient fashion to minimize loading and unloading time. Bus engines should also be off while parked at sporting events and other school activities. Exceptions to this “no idling” policy can be made in cases of emergency, mechanical issues or for necessary heating.

School districts are required to develop district-wide and building-level comprehensive developmental school counseling guidance plans. Schalmont’s plan is available here.
School Safety Plans
Schools are required to maintain a district-wide safety plan to prevent or minimize the effects of violent incidents and emergencies and to facilities the coordination of schools and school districts with local and county resources in the event of such incidents or emergencies.
