Santabarbara fills vacant Board of Education seat

The Schalmont Central School District Board of Education has selected Angelo D. Santabarbara to fill the vacant position on the board for the rest of the 2017-18 school year.

Santabarbara - not to be confused with the NYS Assemblyman - was one of five candidates that the board interviewed for the position that opened up after the resignation of Joseph Amoroso in July.

He was officially sworn into his new position at the board’s September 11 meeting and will serve in the role through June 30, 2018.

A father of four Schalmont students currently in elementary, middle, and high school, Santabarbara has been the Director Networks and Systems at Siena College since 2012.

Even though he is new to his position on the Board of Education, Santabarbara is not new to working with the board and the district overall. He has been the member of a variety of board committees since 2013 including the Budget Advisory Committee, Technology Committee, and the Tech Cabinet. He has also moderated the two "Meet the Candidate" nights for new potential board members.

Santabarbara earned his MBA in Information Systems and Technology Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1998 after he picked up his Bachelor’s in Biotechnology from RIT in 1997.
