5th Grade orientation program scheduled

8/21/17

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to Schalmont Middle School and the start of the 2017-2018 school year! We hope that you have had a very relaxing summer. We are excited to kick off the new year with an informative 5th Grade orientation program that should make your child’s transition to the middle school building as smooth as possible.

The program for incoming fifth grade parents and students is scheduled for Tuesday, August 29 from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria near the fifth grade entrance to the building (first set of doors on the right as you enter the bus loop at the MS/HS complex).

The orientation program will be an opportunity for your child to begin acclimating to their new building. Upon arrival, a specially prepared folder will be awaiting you outside the cafeteria that will include your child’s schedule, locker number and combination, supplies list and other valuable information. During the orientation visit, you will have an opportunity to take a guided tour of the building and to work with your child as they practice opening their locker. Building administration will be on hand to answer any additional questions that you have.

This year, the first day of school will be September 7, 2017. Homeroom begins at 7:40 a.m., and the day will end with dismissal to the buses at 2:15 p.m. You will receive a postcard by mail with your child’s bus route and pick up/drop off information later this summer.

If you haven’t received that postcard by September 1st, please call the Transportation Office at 355-9200, ext. 4202. In addition, please mark your calendars for our Fall Open House program on September 28 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

It is our hope that your child will be comfortable and excited about the transition to 5th grade.
We look forward to working with you as your child takes the next step and begins their journey through the middle school!

Sincerely,

Scott Ziomek, Principal

Kenneth Rizzo, Assistant Principal
