Detective Farry wins Friends of Education Award

Feb. 16, 2017

Detective Farry sitting at his deskCongratulations to Schalmont SRO Detective Patrick Farry for being named a CASDA Friends of Education Award winner!

The Friends of Education Award was introduced in 2015 to recognize the diverse contributions of dedicated individuals from all parts of the school community. While honorees include educators, staff members, parents and community members, recipients are united by a common commitment to supporting students and schools.

“Detective Farry is one of the few people in the world that you know you can always count on to be there for constant support, not only for the children, but also the adults in our district,” Schalmont Superintendent Dr. Carol Pallas said. “His quiet strength has been a valuable resource to us time and again.”

As on officer with the Rotterdam Police Department, Detective Farry was assigned as the School Resource Officer at Schalmont to work with the school district to promote student safety.

"From the beginning, he’s been very involved organizing the overall safety of our campus, overseeing all the security officers and serving on our safety committee,” Pallas said. “But he’s more than a police officer to our students and staff. He takes the time to get to know all our students, even the little ones at the elementary. He is that person who knows just the right way to intervene when a student is at a crossroads. He does so many amazing things for our students every day in such a quiet, unassuming way. He is clearly a friend of education and more importantly, a friend to the students and the Schalmont community.”
