School taxes may be paid in person or online 

Taxpayers in the Schalmont Central School District may pay school tax bills in person or online.  You can also view your tax bill online without having to make a payment, as well as find an assessed valuation, see any exemptions on the property and print a receipt.

Payments can be made the secure, online payment feature by using your credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) or electronic check (using your checking account number and routing number). There is a 2.5 percent fee to pay your bill online.

Please note: This service is available to those residing in the towns of Duanesburg, Princetown and Florida. The towns of Guilderland and Rotterdam also provide a similar service for their taxpayers. 

Residents may use the online payment service beginning with the bills that will be mailed in September 2015. 

In-person collections

For individuals who would prefer not to use the online payment feature, payments may still be made by mail or in person at 4 Sabre Drive, Schenectady, NY 12306.  In-person payments may be made Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Payments of checks or  money orders should be made payable to the Schalmont School Tax Collector.  Cash payments are not accepted.

There is also a night depository to the left of the District Office front doors. Payments made before 9 a.m. will be credited to the previous day's business. Please make sure you have funds in your checking account when you make your payment. Return item fee is $20. 

Please note that the district has implemented a new buzzer system. Before being buzzed into any school district building, including the district office, residents must state their reason for visiting and present photo identification via a security camera outside of the entrance.

Tax Collection Frequently Asked Questions

How can I pay my bill?

  • Payment may be made ONLINE at http://egov.basny.com/schalmontcentralschool/
  • Payments may be made IN PERSON at the Schalmont Central School District, District Office, 4 Sabre Drive, Schenectady, NY 12306, between the hours of 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Please note that the district has implemented a new buzzer system. Before being buzzed into any school district buildings, including the district office, residents must state their reason for visiting and present photo identification via a security camera outside of the entrance. 
  • Payments made BY MAIL should be addressed: Schalmont Central School District, 4 Sabre Drive, Schenectady, NY 12306. Payments should be made payable to the Schalmont School Tax Collector.

When are my taxes due?

School tax collections will be from Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, 2015, without penalty. A 2% penalty will be added from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2016. Do not send payments after Oct. 31, 2016. They will be turned over to the county, and re-levied with your town and county taxes in January 2017, with an increased rate of interest.

Who do I make my check out to?

Checks should be made out to the Schalmont School Tax Collector.

Can I make payments in person?

Yes, but only at the District Office during designated hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., September 3 through October 31). Please note that the district has implemented a new buzzer system. Before being buzzed into any school district building, including the district office, residents must state their reason for visiting and present photo identification via a security camera outside of the entrance.

Can I make payments online?

Yes, payments can be made online for those residing in the towns of Duanesburg, Florida and Princetown at http://egov.basny.com/schalmontcentralschool/ using a credit card or debit card, or checking account number and routing number. The fees for using this system are: 2.45% for credit cards, $3.95 for debit cards and $1.75 for an e-check. If making a payment using the electronic check option, please allow two weeks for your payment to be processed. Your payment must be received at the tax office on or before the due date or late penalties will apply. You will receive an e-mail receipt.

A similar service is also provided by the towns of Guilderland and Rotterdam. However, please contact the towns directly for more information about their fees etc. 

If I pay my taxes through an escrow account do I have to notify my mortgage holder?

No. The process should be seamless and you should not have to make any adjustments. If you receive your bill in error please forward it to your mortgage holder.
